Happy 4th of July

Posted on 07/07/2008

Mike and Heather Young, owners of Sweetwater Lake where we've been staying, entered us into the Vail, CO 4th of July Parade. Mike mentioned he wanted to do this and of course we were in. Heading 48 miles east on I-70 Friday morning, we didn't quite know what to expect. We were a little uneasy about sporting Pete up there for maneuvering purposes, but just went for it. Getting there more than an hour before the parade even started, we were surprised to see so many people already getting their spots on the sidewalks. Mike met us and led us through Vail to the starting point. Everyone's jaws dropped when they saw this HUGE red rig getting in line with their decorative floats.Mike and Heather put alot of time, energy and funds into making this a spectacle. We had Pete (impressive all on his own), pulling our MC 197 Prostar. The boat pulled a tube on a roller table. Kids were packed on the tube and in the boat with buckets of candy and tons of beach balls to throw to the crowd. We had hot bikini chicks in the boat throwing candy and sippin on beach drinks. Jenny and some other girls were passing out the Vail Mountaineer (Vail's new newspaper). Marcus was killin it driving the big rig through the narrow streets of Vail with masses of people 2 feet from either side. PJ was runnin around filming and helping things go smooth with driving. Needless to say, we stood out!!! Don't get me wrong, the other floats were great, but nothing really compares to good ol' Pete. The word on the street is that there was around 35,000 people there. That's solid exposure for sure! Big thanks to Mike and Heather for all their help with the parade and for all their hospitality this weekend. Also, a shout out to Leigh Sheldrake for directing Marcus through the streets. No words can explain how thankful we are. After the parade we went separate ways...PJ to Aspen with his cousin and Marcus and I to a BBQ with family and friends. Not a bad way to spend the 4th in the mountains!
