Long Cold Winter

Posted on 11/03/2008

2008 was a mixed bag full of surprises, upsets, long days and even longer nights... We saw the start up of the MasterCraft Pro Tour again, with a solid offering of stops for all three events. On the competitive side, Men's Slalom was unreal this year. Young guys popping out of nowhere, new blood if you will. Jason McClintock came out strong early in the year and showed a lot of us how easy 39 really can be. Jon Travers took it to the next level, getting to 41 almost every round of every tournament snapping his neck and many of our hopes each time. Then there was Cale Burdick, the midwest rep. This guy has been around, though many let him fly under the radar. The list of accomplishments is long, but he'd never been tested in the Pro arena, which is known as the ultimate proving ground. For most skiers it takes years of Pro skiing before they can even grab one podium finish. Burdick was an anamoly. His first pro stop, Whitestone Lakes, Georgia, he finished a respectable 5th. His next pro stop, an unbelievable 3rd. With all eyes on him and a huge bag full of expectations going into the 3rd event, many expected him to finally crack. He didn't. He killed it. In tough head to head battles, he continued to shine. In the final, he narrowly lost to Jamie Beauchesne but it didn't matter. In just three pro events, his first three, he had already solidified his name in the pro ranks and his ability to compete with the best could not be disputed.

We apologize for leaving you folks out there hanging for the last month.....we are back, and will be bringing you more over the coming months. We promise this time....
