Lay Lake

Posted on 06/30/2008

It's been awhile since Pete has given us much trouble, so we were bound to have something sooner or later. We showed up to Lay Lake, Alabama to find out that the fuse for the hydraulics was done. Joe Sullivan came to the rescue though with a fuse box replacement...followed by a cooler of beer. In no time, Joe and PJ had the jacks down, we had the slide out extended and cold drinks to go with our turkey burgers.
We all met at Bozo's Marina at 7am this morning. Some of us still wiping sleep from our eyes, we headed to the course in two ski boats and a pontoon boat filled with our gear.
Lay Lake is a 48 mile long public lake. This group of people set up the course themselves...back to the grassroots for sure. The 10 x 20 dock they built is surrounded by water. This made "off-the-water" training a little difficult, but we made due. Everyone got their first set in, we took a break for lunch, and then the white caps broke out. Some of the skiers were saying earlier, "we'll be good unless we get a SW wind."...well that's what we got! So, instead of getting a second set in, we goofed around in the wate, and then we headed back to Bozo's to pack up. Everyone shopped at our "pro-shop", Marcus signed posters, pictures were taken, and then we headed on our way west.
It was a great day, with great people, at a great site. Sometimes Mother Nature just takes over! Thanks to Rambo Marine for putting on the event and for all the people at Lay Lake for great hospitality!
COLORADO HERE WE COME!!!! A lil over 1500 miles and 24 hours or so...
